Dr Sherlock graduated in Medicine and Surgery at Sydney University and completed his Orthopaedic training in Sydney on the Australian Orthopaedic Training Programme. Following this Dr Sherlock spent eighteen months completing Fellowships in Arthroscopic and Reconstructive surgery of the Shoulder/Elbow and Knee in Canberra and as the Arthroscopy Fellow at the University of Alberta, Canada. During this period he also gained experience working with the pioneers of modern shoulder joint replacement in Nice and Lyon, France.
Dr Sherlock holds appointments at the Mater Misericordae Private Hospital in Crows Nest, the Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAN) in Wahroonga and Northern Beaches Hospital.
Dr Sherlock is currently a consultant at the NSW Academy of Sport, Narrabeen and has worked as the team doctor for the Waratah Junior Academy, Warringah and Gordon rugby clubs.
Dr Sherlock has published numerous research publications and is actively involved with education of both medical students and orthopaedic trainees. He is responsible for organising the annual in-training examination for advanced trainees of the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He is also an accredited provider for continuing orthopaedic education of general practitioners.
